African American History for Kids

Black African Queen

This page contains information about famous black history figures, for kids, and for the classroom. So, let's learn about the amazing Queen Kandake Amanirenas of the Kingdom of Kush! Imagine a time long ago in a place called Nubia, which is now part of modern-day Sudan, in Africa. Queen Kandake Amanirenas was like a superhero ruler, and she's often called the "Black Queen" because she was so powerful and strong.

Back in the days of ancient Egypt, there was a special place called the Kingdom of Kush. And guess what? Queen Kandake Amanirenas was the boss lady there! She was really strong and smart, just like a lioness. She ruled with bravery and helped her people in many ways. One super cool thing about Queen Amanirenas was that she wasn't just a queen – she was also a warrior!

And while she would lose an eye fighting together with her soldiers, she would continue to lead her army into battles to protect her kingdom from big, powerful empires who took advantage on weaker nations. Imagine a queen wearing armor and fighting right alongside her soldiers – that's exactly what she did. She didn't let anything stand in her way! One of the most exciting stories about Queen Amanirenas is her fight against the Romans.

Yes, those same Romans you've heard about who wore togas and built huge buildings. They wanted to take over her kingdom, but she said, "No way!" This African queen and her army stood up to the Romans and showed them that they couldn't just walk all over her land. But the coolest thing about Queen Amanirenas?

Even though she fought battles and protected her kingdom, she also cared about her people. She made sure that her people had what they needed to live happy and healthy lives. Queen Amanirenas was like a true hero, fighting for her people and standing up to bullies.

So, remember the name Queen Kandake Amanirenas, the Black Queen and ruler of the Kingdom of Kush. She was a brave warrior, a wise ruler, and a true hero for her people. To me she is a true history book superhero!
